When Cosmic Jr's dad and I separated, Cosmic Jr was super worried about who would get the guns.
He apparently asked my ex if he was planning to shoot me if he got a gun in the divorce (don't ask, gun custody is a thing in the South - I got all but the Glock he bought himself).
My ex said, "Son, your mom is a much better shot than I will ever be. I'm not stupid." 🤣
I'm a gun owner. Have no problem with it. Have a lot of problems with people who wave guns like they are dicks.

I completely agree. I grew up with guns in a family that actively hunted and fished. I've spit bird shot out of the turkey on Thanksgiving. Gun safety has been drilled into me from the time I was a guppy.
Nothing scares me more than someone who goes and buys a gun "for protection" whose total gun experience comes from movies.
@Cosmichomicide @gemswinc I had one for a long time, felt competently trained, never needed to use it. Gave it to my leo brother after parkland school shooting. I am shocked, horrified, confused, by all the calls to arm teachers. I know my fellow teachers, live them but I’m out the day that happens.
The only good guys with a gun that stand out to me are the guy who shot the TX church gunman (he was an NRA instructor and lived across the street from the church - waited until he had a clear shot) and the Walmart guy who *didn't* shoot because there were too many people in the parking lot.
In practice, unless you are well trained AND kept up those skills, you are more hazard than hindrance, IMHO. And that includes me. Teachers already have a job in an emergency.
