@scottyorange I am switching over from using Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets to etee laundry detergent powder.
I used to use Purex Liquid and Downy fabric softener (diluted by about half with water). I cut out the Downy. I switched to Earth Breeze laundry detergent sheets to try and be more environmentally conscious.
Then I read about PVAs used in laundry sheets and the laundry and dishwasher detergent pods. They are plastic and are NOT biodegradable no matter what the companies say.
Yep, also read the breakdown and know that powder in a box is the soundest option.
I also live in the South and I have done my time breaking up powder rocks out of mushy boxes. I don't disagree, but it's a tradeoff.
(I have a friend in MN that can list every brand that doesn't dissolve in hard water that has to be heated up to be cold.)🥶
@CarmenSlamdiego @Cosmichomicide @scottyorange the surfactants and yadda, yadda are necessary to break down the gunk we excrete and lift it out of the fibers. Home made just doesn't do it.
I tried a home made dishwasher detergent for a while and it just didn't clean the dishes.
@Cosmichomicide @GeezerWench @scottyorange I have a friend who makes her own laundry detergent. It's essentially grated fels naptha, washing powder, borax, and a little bit of essential oil for scent. I tried it for a while but felt that my clothes didn't last as long / got really dingy looking.
