This is a good article about the current state of Twitter. It's behind a paywall, but you can read it all if you turn off JavaScript. (I run Opera for this purpose.)

Elon Musk Really Broke Twitter This Time

The social network has never seen chaos quite like this.

A good read. Like, stuff WE all already know, but the validation is both thorough and succinct.

@CLManussier @FranklyCurious

it is a good one, lays it all out.

although i have been one of the ones thinking Elon bought it to sink it. since he makes and has made so many ridiculous and anti-democracy comments, i thought it was an Occam's razor thing.

@peeppeepcircus @CLManussier Could be! But Elon Musk always makes me think of the line from Deep Throat in All the President's Men, "Forget the myths the media has created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand..." I think he's ruthless but not bright.

yeah, and this was a particularly good (and cutting) line from the article:

"His incompetence should unravel his image as a visionary, one whose ambitions extend as far as colonizing Mars. This reputation as a genius, more than his billions, is Musk’s real fortune; it masks the impetuousness he demonstrates so frequently on Twitter. But Musk has spent this currency recklessly."

but i also find his RWNJ attacks on democracy particularly unnerving, given his wealth

@peeppeepcircus @FranklyCurious

Whereas, I see the Occam's Razor answer as "He thinks he's a genius, but he's not." Also, rich people w/significant diagnosable conditions often don't get help because they're surrounded by sycophants, not ppl willing to intervene. They can be eccentric mad geniuses instead of someone in need of medication and therapy.

Bottom line, he was born on third & thinks he hit a triple, and probably everyone in his life has validated that belief.

@CLManussier @peeppeepcircus I agree with all this. And based on his takeover of Twitter, there may have been people around to help him. But he would just drive them away. Certainly he is even more deluded about his brilliance than the media is.

@FranklyCurious @CLManussier

that there has been a huge public unmasking of his genius myth (a false myth) is great.

or, this could also be his "people just don't like my paintings" moment.
