in the 90's I was all about Sepultura, Slayer, Carcass, Obituary, Testament, Pantera, Fear Factory, and also hit my limit at the black album. I took a break from metal for years because it got weird in my area with the Avenged Sevenfold kind of jock scene, but jumped back in recently. CoB for sure, Gojira, Amon Amarth, Bastard Sapling, Mastodon... One unexpectedly cool band I've been digging is Mesarthim which is like electronic stuff mixed with black metal

I need to be careful with black metal bands through because I don't want to support NSBM and sometimes it's hard to tell.
