I'm not really a sports person. I only care during the World Series, and only enough to check the score. But I live with people from the Philly area, so Sunday was A Thing.
I've talked to the wrens who come to eat at my back door. They don't think it seems right for a non-bird team to win the Superb Owl when a bird team was competing. Wren is the King of Birds and does kind of owe Eagle for that, so...the Eagles win!
Every year, my dad gave my mom a big boquet of red roses and a big chocolate sampler. And he gave me a few pink roses and a little chocolate sampler.
When I moved out on my own, he sent me a card every year. Or he knocked on my door with a card when he was on his lunch break.
After almost 40 years of being reminded that Valentine's Day can be for all love - not just romantic love - it's been less than 10 years, so I'm still not used to him not being here.
@peter_by_the_sea Everything about this is beautiful. The relationship, the Welsh word, the validation of asexual people at Valentine's Day... everything!

Happy Valentine's Day to all, whether you're in a relationship, looking, or happy without. My wife and I have had a thirty year loving friendship with an asexual neighbour, sharing holidays etc. I thought I'd celebrate this with a Valentine villanelle, please click on the screen grab if you wish to read it. I've used a Welsh word 'cwtch': 'cuddle', in the second verse.
@sfleetucker I have actually used, "I'm counting stitches," to avoid conversation at times. Not that different from, "Sorry, can't choose a new husband, gotta finish this project first."
Had to pull out a whole day of knitting and start over. Halfway done, but then noticed a mistake at the beginning that would compromise the stability. Tried to do a "work around fix"...but, nope.
Starting over! Keep your fingers crossed for me. Maybe that'll hold stitches together. 😄

@jordicusmaximus Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Ctulhu R'lyeh wgah-ngal fhtaga!
I prefer to pronounce things in R'lyehian as if they were in Welsh. There was an interesting linguistics study done that theorized that may be what it was based on.
Actual things said in our house tonight...
"What is psytrance?"
"Look up the group Infected Mushroom."
I'm kind of surprised that I like their cover of "Black Velvet"!

@XaoslordErie I've seen his name mentioned many times over the years, but never read his work. Do you have any suggestions for where to start?
My book made it back to me! I did this several years ago for the Brooklyn Art Library's Sketchbook Project. Sadly, they have to close. But I was able to get my book sent back to me! It survived a fire at the library, I've moved to a different state than where I lived when I did it, and now we're together again. Praise Lake Monster!

@XaoslordErie Yeah, I've been very thankful for the job my husband got when he finished school. We went from "maybe that would be nice in the mythical 'someday'" to "plan ahead, save for a few months, and we can do this". He's gently nudging me to take disability accomodations in the home seriously.
☀️ Maya Angelou, Still I Rise
I was fortunate to see and hear her when I was in school. She came to recite her poetry. This was one of them.
I have recently fallen in love with the song "Annan Water". The chorus just...look, we will all meet our end eventually. Making a deal with the water seems like a good idea.

"If you calm
And let me pass
You may render me a wreck
When I come back
So calm your waves
And slow the churn
And you may have my precious bones
On my return"
@BrianHjelleVirologist Cassandra told them not to bring the giant wood horse in...but, of course, nobody ever listened to her.
Bard with a ukulele. Friend of Lake Monster. 93% stardust. Autistic. Fabulously weird.
