Gun violence is a serious problem in the United States that affects all people, Republicans as well as Democrats.
Gun ownership should be restricted to those who have a need to use weapons as part of their regular duties.
There is no other dangerous activity for which we just throw up our hands and say "We can't regulate this because people who don't want to obey the law won't."

I strongly disagree with your second paragraph. This statement comes from a position of privilege where the police are usually on your side and response times are quick.
Talk to BIPOC folks who are often treated poorly by most police departments. Or people in inner city or rural communities where the police take forever to show up, if ever. Or women who have restraining orders against their violent, abusive exes.
