Agree 100% about the 1984 version fitting that album, and the demo matching better with the more aggressive, raw style of the early albums.
Some people think 1984 was the beginning of the end for VH, but I kind of appreciate their sound changing a bit through the years. Certainly not as drastic as Heart!

I used to feel this way about the early Beatles albums. I found them too bubblegum pop, and would only listen to Rubber Soul and later albums. It's only in recent years I've come to appreciate their early stuff more.

@voltronic Agreed. It's ironic that VH's biggest commercial success came right at the end of 'VH 1' as it were, but I equally don't think 5150 could have happened without 1984.
As for The Beatles that piece I posted yesterday from Stevie Van Zandt made me see things differently. Being from Liverpool, I sort of took them for granted, but it's hard to underestimate the impact they made to a post-war audience. Even their 'bubblegum' years were the right thing at the right time 👍 @JoyfullyDazed
