I had a Mac, I left my computer on and laughed at the Windows users hiding in their closets.
The epoch on Macs didn't roll over until 2032.
@mcfate
That seems to be a pretty random year.
It's all about the start date you pick for zero.
@voltronic I still get slightly annoyed at the folks that claimed the Y2K thing was a big nothingburger, because terrible crap didn't happen on 1/1/00. I was one of the many thousands of computer professionals who worked their asses off for months to make sure it turned out that way.
@MakerWerks @voltronic
As was I. We found many issues to be mitigated in the year prior to y2k. The factory I worked at was dependent on the systems. We didn't miss anything fortunately.
@voltronic there was nothing like sitting around waiting for something to go boom that night.. and the relief that nothing did . Then starting the party at 2am.
@voltronic If we’d only just left them turned off…
@voltronic Holy moley, I remember that! I was kind of afraid.
I bought us kerosene heaters and kerosene in case the power went out. I stocked up on canned goods. Had some water in reserve. The husband worked at a nuclear plant and he said there was nothing to worry about, but he was a little tense.
Woke up the next morning and everything was fine.
Thank all the techie folks!
@voltronic I'm still very proud of all the hard work that techies did to get us through the conversion. I'm so sorry that many could not get work afterwards because fewer positions were needed. They were true technology heroes.
