^ Keep in mind that the actual *manufacturer* of your router may be different than the *brand name* it bears. Read the fine print on the labels.

For example: If you have Verizon FiOS and you rent one of their combo gateway / WiFi router units, there's a good chance Arcadyan made it.

@voltronic Our VZ router sucks. I was thinking of buying a replacement - any suggestions? I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to this stuff....

@AndyM
If you have TV service with them, you might be stuck with their gateway. That's because your TV boxes run on a MOCA network using the coax cables going through your house.

In theory you could use Eithernet > MOCA adapters to feed your TV boxes, but this is not officially supported.

If you are an internet-only customer, you can use whatever router you want because you can just run Ethernet from the ONT. This is what I do.

@voltronic Damn. I thought I may be hosed - we have TV service too. The router signal is HORRIBLE.

@AndyM
Hmm, even if the router is located in one corner of the house, these newer ones Verizon uses put out a very strong signal. I can "see" all of my neighbors' units from inside my house. Maybe you have an older one and could ask for a swap?

Of course, the newer one they might give you could be one of these Arcadyan units with this vulnerability. 🤦‍♂️

Either way, you could add another access point like this one too give you better coverage.
