Mainly the general concept of how music teachers tend to be restrictive right off the bat to get kids to play the "right" notes or do things that fit "our" curriculum. Instead, it needs to be about letting them explore without limitations, then teach them how to take the sounds they are making and go farther with them. Kind of like how kids learn a language.

A bunch of this lines up with the early childhood research I studied early on in my undergrad program, but I had forgotten about it. This was a great reminder.

I mean… the line between music and language is surprisingly fuzzy. I hadn’t thought of it like this but now that I am… it makes sense.
Like… yeah, you got talking, then singing, and then like… acapella, and then instruments.
But there’s also whistle-languages out there. And rap/poetry doesn’t even necessarily have notes, but the cadence and rhyming and syntax can be musical. And whatever the Rage Against the Machine vocalist does, lol.
