Introducing Cloudflare One
https://blog.cloudflare.com/introducing-cloudflare-one/
@voltronic 😆 think you're onto something there
@ecksmc
At the same time, I really wanted this post to be a lot more technical. I have no idea how they are actually doing the things they claim they can do. They make it sound like a private corporate Tor that doesn't have degraded performance, but the question is, how?
@voltronic still reading it tbh
sometimes i have to read long articles/posts a few times
the same kinda thing occurred when they brought the WARP out folk just thought it was a normal VPN and worked the same as any VPN - they aren't known for explaining fully off the bat how things work
@ecksmc
Same. I have WARP and use it when away from home, but I'm still not really sure what it's doing differently than ever other VPN, other than the fact that they own an enormous CDN and therefore the performance can be much better.
@voltronic i read this a while back
It's built like a VPN, but it isn't a VPN in the traditional sense. Warp exists to ensure mobile data is securely transmitted as fast as possible. Warp Plus does the same thing even faster.
https://www.pcmag.com/news/cloudflare-finally-launches-warp-but-its-not-a-mobile-vpn
basically it just secures your internet traffic without loss of speed it's not like other VPNs that hide your identity online or offer access to geo-restricted content
@voltronic but yeah as for the nuts and bolts on what it is actually doing differently
/shrugs
i haven't used it in a long time
@voltronic i just use the 1.1.1.1 cloudflare via all my device settings with a VPN provider separate from cloudflare
can also set that up on Android via your settings btw without using the 1.1.1.1 warp app
Select the Private DNS provider hostname option via your network settings
Enter
1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com
and hit Save
you can change the last 1 to 2 for malware protection or to 3 for parental privacy to adult content and malware
@voltronic i'm sure you knew that about the android setting
was for others mainly who might be reading the thread later on who might not have known 😉
^ This sounds pretty cool, but I think CF needs someone to help summarize their giant wall-of-text blog posts.
