#cososec PSA:
With everyone quarantined, streaming video use is increasing. That also means many more opportunities for your streaming or IoT devices to spy on you.
I just checked the logs on my Pi-hole. Blocked requests have been up about 15-20% daily compared to before the lockdown. As usual, my living room TV is the main culprit. Samsung makes beautiful screens, but boy are they spammy. I have heard that Roku devices are just as bad.

You said it. A student gave me one of those pucks last year, and I never took it out of the box.
I know a guy who has Alexa-ed his whole damn house, including lights and even his door locks. He's a very technical guy from a mechanical standpoint, but doesn't know much at all about infosec. Mics are active all the time, all over the house, for convenience.
@voltronic 👍🏽
My Xfinity XR11 remote control has a microphone built in with no way to keep it off WiFi. It's similar to Alexa for doing searches for TV shows.
Supposedly you have to push the button to activate, but I don't know if it listens for commands. The scanner app on my phone does not see it, but who knows when/if it phones home.
I don't give anything (TV, Printers, etc) the WiFi password.
