Pennsylvania just cancelled state standardized testing. I wonder if other states will follow suit?

No, I think schools in most of the country have been closed as of this week.

Standardized tests are required by the state and federal government. It ties into school funding, and if your scores are really terrible for a few years in a row, the state can kick out the local school directors and take over control directly. That usually goes about as badly as you can imagine.

So cancelling these tests requires waivers being granted from the federal Dept of Ed. They wouldn't grant the waivers if the situation wasn't this serious.

@voltronic I believe that Kansas and Indiana have done that as well.

Kansas flat out cancelled the rest of the school year. So did Texas.
