ALSO key and helps with non-judgementalness is the ability to stop thoughts << this may seen impossible but also not.
I meditated in early 90s after my dad died. I had a couple cool experiences that made me feel a lot better about dad and death and such...
But nothing like this.. I now can let those thoughts drift in and out without paying attention to them.
Incredibly helpful with serious problem solving/finding solutions to relieve misery. β€οΈ
