She was "cancelled" due to racist harassment and and ableist bullying of autistic people.

I'm now also seeing she claimed to be autistic. Probably as much a lie as the rest.

I had to sit with it for a couple of days to process my reaction.

If I had known who she was from the start, I would have been fine with that. I would have thought that she did a great job with the representation in the book.

But that she was misrepresenting herself? Doing brownface and whatever the gender equivalent is?

It makes the lovely relationship feel dirty. Exploitative.

Apparently this is the second or third time she's done something like this.

Recently I read a book that was a ghost story featuring a nonbinary person and a trans man as the protagonists. They developed a sweet relationship, and I thought they were both well written. Their gender was part of the story, but not central to it.

It was, ostensibly, written by a young nonbinary person of color.

Over the weekend, I found out that the author, Freydis Moon, is actually a middle-aged cis white woman.

And I feel betrayed.

It's not often a book makes me want to buy it based on the title alone. And if that didn't do it, the cover sure did.
(I didn't buy it because I entered a giveaway on Storygraph, but if I don't win a copy, I'm so buying this.) And I still have no idea what it's about.

We have a new kitty in the apartment complex. I'll try to get a picture next time I see him.

Saw him a couple of days ago with his person trying to get him back inside. Today, he was out on his own, but there was banging in one of the apartments. Furniture assembly and such. I think he escaped and was avoiding the noise.

Now, Chonky is only really a bit chubby. But this new boy, a grey tabby with a bob tail, is a proper chonker.

Hopefully he'll get used to me and we can be friends.
