I know I think differently than most folks but I think I'm shocked at the gap between how I figured things were going with this election and what happened. I am overwhelmed at the magnitude of the choices made and what it says about my fellow citizens.

It feels vaguely matrix like. Suddenly the world doesn't feel like the world I know, and even more divorced from the basic standards of decency and rationality that I thought were here.

My old normal feels strangely performative and shallow.

@NiveusLepus From a 30,000-foot historical perspective, we are seeing the massive social upheavals that have always followed a plague. (Doesn’t make anything better, I know.) The huge covid disruption turbocharged some trending social changes throughout the world, plus made everyone paranoid and distrustful, which is typical of a plague response. If we have more plagues (bird flu, feline covid), we are going to see the world’s societies altered permanently.

Learning that every incumbent party in a developed nation has been voted out--most by large margins--really gave me a different perspective.

Between the pandemic and global inflation, people are blaming whoever is in office now.

By that measure, Harris did surprisingly well. Much better than most countries. We're divided, not really 50-50, because so many don't participate. But 35-35-30.

In many places, the fascists have a bigger share.
