Scholastic MESSED UP
Recently, Scholastic decided to remove "diverse" books from their regular book fair selection. They offered a supplemental selection for teachers and librarians to opt in to. A couple of people who did reported that these books didn't arrive until the last day of the fair, meaning most kids had no chance to see them.
Nearly all books with people of color or even BY authors who were not white, were separate into the special collection.
Good.
They've broken a lot of trust, and made people more aware of alternative sponsors for book fairs in the meantime.
They also asked an author to remove the word racism from the author's note before they'd add the book to their lineup. Her book was about her grandparents--who met in a Japanese internment camp.
She's also made a stink, so hopefully they've stopped that practice as well.

Wonder if that got them some attention from George Takei. He was a kid in one of those camps.
No idea, I tend to avoid Formerly-Known-As, like any right-thinking person, George included, ought to be doing.
No sense in going to Nazi rallies in the hopes of setting someone straight.
@tyghebright
It only took 'em a week to work out that they were making idiots of themselves.
