Talking (online) to a British teacher, when the doorbell rang and I said to her "ask not for whom the bell tolls..." and she said HUH... she had no idea what I meant. And she's a teacher. Sigh.
Tell me I'm not alone in having that sinking feeling...

What subject does she teach and how old was she?
I consider it a highly recognizable phrase, but I was an English lit major.
@tyghebright I honestly don't know much about her as it was a casual conversation online, but she's not a young person, I know that. All I know is that her profession is "teacher".
