...to make Barack Obama a one-term President.
Meanwhile, people on the left got pouty that Obama wasn't able to reverse all previous policies in a single day, and some, like the folks at the now extinct firedoglake, denounced Obama and even made coalitions with the tea partiers.
Others just got bored by anything that wasn't a sexy presidential election and stayed home.
The result was that in 2010, the Republicans won Congress and many governorships and state legislatures. +
In 2008, following the W Bush Administration disasters of the Iraq War, stock market collapse, and indiscriminate bailouts given to the too-big-to-fail banks, Barack Obama won what was, by today's standards, a landslide election and took office in an atmosphere of hope.
The far right, however, went crazy, angry that a black President might presage the downfall of white domination of the country, and unable to give full vent to their racism. They organized "tea parties" and vowed...+
Good morning everyone. Established an account for @SpottedElk if you want to follow. Wanted to grab the name and since were working on this Wounded Knee stuff it’s probably more appropriate to put it there. Please follow if you’re interested in the history / Native American heritage.

@Netherbury Same. My wife's mother has been trying to get us to stop for the last 6+ months, telling us "It's time to get back to normal"
She's currently in hospital after complications from a hip op and... just caught Covid today. Luckily my wife stayed masked around her in her room when she visited a few days ago, despite constantly being told "You don't need to wear that in here" 🙄
@ucantstop_me I have not stopped wearing a mask. I am not immune compromised, just don't want any cooties. I like not having the flu in 2 years.
PSA: #covid #coronavirus
I haven't done one of these in a while
Start wearing two masks. Put a surgical or whatever over your mask. If you use a ear loop mask tie a loop of elastic around ear loops and stretch high and tight over your back of your head. I wear a pony tail so my mask strap goes over my pony to keep it from slipping.
Why? Cuz viral load in the entire country is way too high
"This is our cry. This is our prayer. Build peace in the world." - inscription on the Children's Peace Monument.
On top is a statue of Sadako Sasaki, who died of leukemia caused by exposure to radiation following the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The entire park is a plea to never again repeat the horrors of nuclear war.
It is up to each generation, & each person, to push for peace & elimination of nuclear weapons. Our future depends upon learning from our past.
The Itaewon community has opened its arms to us for many years and is part of the reason our Alliance is so strong,” U.S. Forces Korea said in a post on its Facebook page Sunday. “During this time of grief, we will be there for you just as you have been there for us.”

This post (on the other site) by Alex Stamos is *the* ultimate commentary on why Musk's plans for Twitter are already doomed (Stamos was the fmr Chief Security Officer at Facebook, now head of 'Trustworthy Tech' at Stanford. He famously departed Facebook over the inertia surrounding the Russian misinformation campaign in the 2016 election). Here, he clearly lays out the insurmountable, and disturbing, conflicts of interest he just bought into.
@trairong we all try our best to keep it stress free here
