Gemma, as a fellow Okie I understand the base of your dilemma somewhat. As a big hairy male I will never be able to see it the way you do. But I can tell you what I see in others when they see me.
People with weapons either fumble for them (low threat) or do a weapon check and keep walking (competent). Some people noticably check their surroundings, any witnesses, security cameras, defendable positions. Practice - it shows.

@AskTheDevil I have a "we are food for the gods" perspective, and I don't care if I mean that when we die our energies go to be one with what we are aligned with, or if mean that dedication to a god affects our psychology and therefore actions to aid the energy of a social movement, or both. I just know when I want to "pray", I put my hand on my heart and dedicate myself to love. Then I kiss my fingers and blow the kiss/wish to where godly aid may be needed, and listen for inspiration to act.
In the last few minutes of my lucky day, they figured out the technical difficulties and I now have WiFi. Can you hear me singing from where you are?

Friday the 13th is def my lucky day. I even got an unexpected party invite from the neighbors and scored a burger and glass of wine.
@AskTheDevil I would have a way to make my friend feel included, and play laser tag before or after they were there. But, I like bonding with people during celebrations, not so fond of making people feel excluded, perhaps I'm odd.
