Thought of something that might make a good PSA, just in case. I have a dangerous ex who once learned where I live because our child's doctor's receptionist "verified" our address by stating it to him. No. You verify you are speaking to the customer by making them tell it to you. Even if it had been someone saying they were me, it could have been his girlfriend. Don't give out info, they should be able to give it to you.

Verizon sent an ex- husband my new address - to verify. After 16 years … he now has my address. Unbelievable!

@QueenOfEverything We should be able to sue for dangerous negligence when that happens. Not sure, maybe we can. I didn't bother looking into it, though I told every receptionist at the doctor who "verified" that way, until one was so interested when I mentioned it kept happening that she brought upper management down to hear the details directly from my mouth, and they promised to change their training policies immediately. It worked, they never did that again.

Unfortunately, my ex is an IT guy. It only took 6 months to realize I needed to get out and I did. This was 17 years ago. It’s time for me to do a complete reset of my passwords/ identity.

I’m a writer… I always believe there’s a book for everything. I’ve been checking to see if there’s a Dummies Guide to Personal Security-that has checklists and how-to instructions. I’m not in any danger- but I’m tracking how this happened w/ Verizon bc it could have been a nightmare.
