Now I have the birds, I can't use incense or oils to freshen the air, which is a massive bummer for me. I enjoy a nice rose scent. I also had to get rid of the miniature rose, so the birds don't land on it. However, I just pruned my mint and realized I can pinch a few leaves off after dinner to freshen the air a bit after cooking. Bonus, nibbling the mint will help curb my sweets cravings and give me a burst of the scent pleasure I like. I need more herbs. I have a couple, I need all of them.
@tippitiwichet there are lots of different mints... you could start a collection
@redenigma I have Thai Basil and some brand new tiny italian heirloom basil seedlings. Hopefully in the spring, the bee balm in the yard will come up and I can bring cuttings indoors. I should get some chocolate mint, lemon mint, and keep my eyes open for local wild mints. Can you think of something cool I missed? Oh, yeah, rosemary. Will be growing that for the birds.
@tippitiwichet i have chocolate mint (so much chocolate mint. partner ran it over with the rototiller about 20 years ago, and now it's everywhere)
watch out for some of the newer cultivars. i had Mint Mojito, which looks nice, smells great, dries well & is a very tender annual... it does not do well indoors under lights either :/
it's too cold here for rosemary & that inevitably gets spidermites indoors. i'd love to have some though
@redenigma Hmm. That's something to keep in mind, I do struggle with spider mites, though I currently seem to be winning the battle.
Oh! And I can root some of the cuttings, then slip them into the bowls of seeds I sprout for them to forage in! Then the birds will freshen the air every time they try to find hidden seeds and nibble on sprouts!
