This man really can't get it into his head that I can be this physically weak and still live without a car. He's freaking out, offering to buy me a new car, pay for ubers, etc. I keep reminding him of how I've lived most of my life without cars, and the extra walking strengthens me, like physical therapy. He really sees himself as needing to take care of me, and just can't get it into his head that I'm tough as nails and can do quite a bit when I put my mind to it.

@tippitiwichet Well, it's nice that he cares. Walking is great and I'm pretty independent as well. But as someone who also does not have a car, don't reject the ubers out of hand.. Sometimes, picking up something that won't fit on the bus is really helpful for the budget. I've had to learn to accept help, because it's good for those that get to give help as well as for me.

@TrueBloodNet It is nice that he cares, and also unwise for me to forget this man needs therapy so he stops treating me like shit. It's frustrating because I care about him and know what he struggles with, but he has used my compassion and gratitude against me while doing and saying some rather horrific things. I put up with too much because I know there's a nice guy burried under the trauma he refuses to get treated. Obviously, I'm the crazy one. Nothing is wrong with him. Sigh.

@tippitiwichet I'm so sorry. Is it something that comes and goes? Is there any hope of telling him how bad he makes you feel on a 'better' day?

Whatever happens, I hope things end up on the plus side for you, all told.

@TrueBloodNet In a way it does. Unfortunately I've reached a point to where the only thing I can to to help him understand how damaged he is, is to leave. To live my life in a way that focuses on my mental health until I recover to where I was when I met him. I'm resilient, once I'm out of a bad situation, he's about to see my coping skills in action. Hopefully that will provoke him to get help, and listen to me as a voice of experience (with a psych degree) rather than "crazy".

@TrueBloodNet Also, he will help me while I get my certification to be a peer recovery support specialist, a job that will use my degree and experience dealing with these issues, he said I can stay here rent free while I do some self study to pass the test, he doesn't want me to struggle. He works in the NE, so things will work out gently.
