Omgs y'all my kid keeps being all "I'm gonna fight that!" And I can't get her to stop in part because of Joe and my BIL being very "tough" because of the way they were raised, and Joe encourages her "fighting spirit". So I just explained to six year old what social Darwinism is and where the flaws came from, complete with hummingbird/flower illustrations for what he meant with "fittest", and how wolves in zoos aren't wolves in the wild, and the "alpha male" phenomenon. I'm EXHAUSTED.
@chromogirl I think the best part was when I pointed out that she was being parented by people who had been parented poorly, and were trying to heal from it, and she's just nodding enthusiastically, totally fully aware, lol.
i love that you are talking to her like an adult, because truly nobody knows how deeply kids do understand complicated stuff, especially since they are often "protected" from discussion with nuances in it.
they are smart lil sponges, there is no counting the benefits of the education you are giving her. 😍
i had other parents tell me they wouldn't "let" their children argue with them, while i had exhausting negotiations and debates with mine.

@chromogirl Totally! That's how you raise a critical thinker, I have no interest in a child who will bow to authority for authority's sake (with the understanding we don't mouth off to our bosses and are respectful in how we state our observations). Good on you, too!
