I know from a past job that anesthesiologists certainly do. They'd call me at 2 am for their volunteer board duties (I wasn't working when they were) and leave a voice mail with ....beep....beep...beep....beep from the monitor in the background. It was creepy and I felt bad for the patients. I finally asked them about it in a board meeting in context of patient safety and they stopped.
