My brother and I are both adopted (from different homes) and while I never looked into my birth family, he did because he has schizophrenia which has a genetic factor. He did find his birth mother and she's darker like him.
Our adoptive mother was very light skinned, not light enough to pass or anything but she looked almost Asian in her coloring as @IronButterfly can attest ...
My mom was born in 1939 in the south ... she didn't like white people obviously.

I think this really bothered my mother because she absolutely would not stop talking about it for weeks. Any opportunity she had to bring up this woman, Mary, she would take and it was always in a very negative way and it was always out of nowhere.
At one point she said the reason I didn't have any Black friend was because I had "white energy" (we lived in the suburbs) and that is why I only attracted white people around me for example this woman at the pool party.

These pool parties were all of my parents Black friends and their kids. One of the men there had a white wife and she wasn't very popular. Another guy had a mixed wife ... who looked very white but her mother was a very dark Native American which made this man's wife more popular ... more exotic ... and more acceptable to the other Black families.
The "unacceptable wife" sat and talked to me the whole party. She expressed an interest in what I was reading. I was maybe 14 or so at the time.

My mother said this to me when she was criticizing me for reading the DSM at a pool party. I had checked it out of the library and I really wasn't able to put it down. Social gatherings with my parents' family friends were not something I enjoyed so I usually found somewhere to sit and read.

Black artists have been exploited for decades. A new series explores the fight for fair pay in music.
Co-commissioned with the BBC, and from executive producers Idris and Sabrina Elba, the three-part series is narrated by Canadian music icon Jully Black.

The thing that currently sucks about season 2 of #PersonOfInterest is that I was really enjoying the season 1 for specific reasons ... and season 2 now focuses on #AmyAcker's character Root ... but I don't give a shit about her character at all. She has no depth, her motivations are empty, all we know is she wants access to the machine and we have to deal with her faux-crazy nonsense every episode. She's now the sole focus and the show sucks now and I think she's in the next 3 seasons 😭
Part 2 of my #JekyllandHyde video series is up.
This video goes into depth about how the story mirrors so much of the reality of addiction spirals, dealing with the breakdown of friendships, and trying to find your role in a relationship with a friend who has descended into a dark and downward spiral.
Adaptions only ever focus on the character of Henry Jekyll - a selfish, mentally ill addict - and ignore the real victims.
You can watch all videos in the series here: https://twr.onl/jekyllandhyde
Part 1 of my #JekyllandHyde video series is available.
I'm covering Chapter 6 and 7 now, two of my favorite chapters that significantly shift the focus into "What The Absolute Fuck" territory for the first time.
I'm lamenting even further about the loss of the deeper themes of the story in all the modern adaptations. It is truly a story about loyalty, male friendships, and navigating relationships involving addiction and/or mental illness.
But no one actually cares.
How about 2009's Daybreakers with Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Neill

I will never understand why the kpop industry is so completely blind and stupid when it comes to talent. Why would you take someone with Rose's beauty and vocal talent and BURY her in some group (BLACKPINK) where she never gets to sing or be heard for like 10 years ... it's absolutely the dumbest thing ever and I'm GLAD she's free of that shit now and can have an amazing SOLO career where people can hear her epicness.
Honestly, the best thing about it WAS the music ... and I can understand why the network sort of shifted the editing process and focus to that and also Kim Go Eun's diving and ocean clean up focus etc. I just really was interested in all the people who went and what kinds of stories they wanted to have.
There are compilations of all the amazing performances and I've shared many here before especially Rose's Only Exception practice ... ❤️
Sea of Hope came under a lot of criticism for it's failed premise which was supposed to showcase all the stories of the people coming to the seaside shows. Instead it ended up showing only people eating food (cooked by actors and guests) and drinking drinks served by my favorite Wook and all of the epic live music performances of all the famous singers who showed up to work and also perform. Lee Ji ah had a wonderful idea of combining the sea, music, food but it never got seen that way.
Artist: Lee Suhyun
Title: Butter (Live BTS cover)
I woke up to this classic in my feed this morning. #SeaofHope was a great reality show if only because of all the wonder sea side lives performances - especially Rose and Suhyun. ❤️ If you're a fan of her wonderful voice or new to it, check this wonderful, fun cover and enjoy. ☀️
