One of the things that bothers me most about doctors is the bias and assumptions they make about me. I literally have BINDERS of data on my stress, my sleep, my diet, my exercise, my body scans, blood pressure, you name it ... I have been tracking my body info for well over 20+ years but none of the "apps" my health providers use are compatible with the stuff I use, so they make assumptions that I know nothing about my own body or my health. They assume I am doing nothing and know nothing.

She left to focus on diabetes in pregnant women ... and she KNEW how hard it was for me to find an endocrine who listened and cared. She knew my story and the woman who was my endocrine before her was someone she studied under so she knew to trust her notes and she didn't second guess anything in my chart.
Now I have to deal with someone new who doesn't know me ... makes assumptions ... doesn't ask me any questions and isn't interested in my data.
It's exhausting.
My A1C was 6.3 ...
I have PCOS, Type 2 diabetes, and thyroid issues and I don't use ANY insulin and she was like ... well I think your A1C isn't accurate.
HOW? I had 14 vials of blood drawn on 9/16 and and a huge panel of tests including metabolic and A1C but somehow you would rather believe the A1C isn't accurate? Because my Dexcom doesn't show you what you expect? Because the last 10 days of data look a certain way? A1C measures your average blood sugar level over the past 3 months.
My last 2 endocrinologists were amazing ... now I have a new one that I don't trust AT ALL, who wants to change my medications, doesn't trust my A1C, doesn't ask me any questions and just tells me what she wants to do ... this is a nightmare.
Now I am probably going to have to look for ANOTHER one ...
@thewebrecluse i am interested to know how your numbers improve with your sauna.
@SECRET_ASIAN_MAN The sauna doesn't effect my blood sugar much. It is more a tool for my mixed connective tissue disease symptoms.
My brother went through some things last year and the same kind of conversation was happening. What I got out of it all was that A1C isn't a direct blood sugar measurement. They measure hemoglobin and then from that can estimate the average glucose level.
@thewebrecluse
Yep... Definitely a sign to look for another one... Sorry... There is no feeling with diagnostic blood work. The numbers are right...
Good luck... And hope you've got a good med to help with reducing the A1C... It's a bear...
@InvaderGzim I'm not that worried about the A1C its a number that doesn't reflect everything happening in the body or with the person. Blood sugar as well isn't 100% tied to food ... stress, anxiety, cortisol also play a major factor. The endocrine is just looking at charts and knows nothing about me and doesn't really care to find out. I can't be bothered with someone like that especially if they can't be bothered with me ... not to mention that fact they focus on BMI ... they're clueless.
@thewebrecluse I don’t know where you live but here is Southern California I found a business that sells herbs and things like that , they go to Mexico too and they bring medicine you need , it is under the table obviously but I used to buy from them and many people too , the system is broken and needs replacing but they won’t do it.
@Jorro I can take care of myself for the most part and have long before I even had insurance. Doctors have never been helpful and half of them don't really care about the needs of their patients. I do just fine but there are some meds I do actually need so I have to put up with at least one doctor. Endocrine ... I can do without. I'll find a new one or just take care of myself. I've done it for decades.
@thewebrecluse I’m in the same situation but I don’t have big issues, and that helps .
@Jorro I have a few big issues which is why I need one doctor and that one I have is great. She's Black and an osteopathic doctor. Perfect for me. She listens, she likes my data, and she trusts my own knowledge about my body. Endocrine are notoriously racist and fatist especially the MDs. I think I can do fine without one but I will look for a nurse practitioner and see if I land on someone better. If not, I'll be on my own.
@thewebrecluse good luck !! I hope you find a good doctor , the system is so bad , since I’m not familiar with the problems you have maybe this might be a bad advice, have you tried natural remedies?
@Jorro Always those first which is how I got so far without doctors.
@thewebrecluse I know !!
At the same time, when I OFFER all the data to them they're like ... no I don't need it, it's not clinical or accurate. Of course it's not ... it's not because you'd rather just make your own determinations based on your racism, sexism, fatism, and whatever else puts you above your patients.
The last endocrinologist I had was amazing. She LISTENED and she LOOKED at my data and she was interested in everything I was doing, what supplements I was taking, and why.
