: I have noticed that a swath of weird fiction is kind of "too clever by half". I mean that the concept is solid and the execution starts out well, but then it goes on too long, tries to draw things out and introduces moments and scenes that don't add anything meaningful, and lose are fair number of readers. Even some of the Masters of Weird Fiction and Weird Horror do it hither and yon.

: I am going on an it's-probably-not-a-date tomorrow. It's going to the bookstore and to get some noms with a woman I've been talking with (socially) for a few weeks. We find one another interesting is all I can say. Anyway, I'm quite chuffed, mostly because I don't really get out much.

: New mattress is unpacked and is going to decompress/inflate(?) for the next 72 hours.

It's my second bed. I got a new, shorter bed frame for it. I don't always want to sleep in my bedroom. So there'll be a spare on the other side of the house, just in case I want to sleep there or on the unlikely AF chance I have company.

: I hate this about horror movies. It's a primary reason my stuff doesn't get picked by film banks to produce. They invariably tell me, "It needs a family angle, and it needs a Strong Female Character to be Final Girl or Heroine and a Flawed Boyfriend/Husband who needs to rise to the occasion and be rescued emotionally." I refuse flatly, every time.

: I never saw this adaptation, but one of my old bosses, now retired, at an ad agency in Charlotte told me I was like that when I was his Executive Assistant. He was a good dude, and it was a good company, and I was a Good Company Man when I was in those sitches.

: Apparently Bluesky's having some big-time infrastructure problems handling all the new user accounts. I've read/heard from a few folks online that the platform picked up 1mn new users since yesterday. That said, some of those I read/heard it from remarked that, as can be expected., there is a small but vocal rebellion of longtime users frustrated that all the no0bs are gonna kill the vibe.

The cycle continues unabated, I see.
