2/2: ...into college either by grades or by way of football scholarship. He had outstanding warrants for strongarm robbery, amongst other similar crimes, at the time of his death. The kicker is that, like many of the others who turned into assholes in middle school, he was from one of "the good families".
An old school pal mused way back in college that Boyd's name was a typical criminal name you read/heard in true crime stories/documentaries:
Boyd Lee Rinehardt.
Yikes.
1/2: A few minutes ago I learned whatever happened to a guy I was friends with from 1st through 7th grade but who, like other friends from that period, turned into an asshole when he went from playing in the band to playing football. In 2004, he kidnapped his mother and stepfather, holed up in his house, killed his stepfather, got into a gunfight with a multi-county sheriffs' taskforce, and killed himself rather than go to jail.
Apparently, he'd turned to a life of robbery after not making...
: YouTube and other online platforms being so absolutely, cravenly desperate for content and for users' time is what's driving me to spend less time online. Regular YT videos, plus Shorts, plus Games, plus PPV movies, and all and in such a glaringly desperate layout designed to split attention and run users down rabbit holes is a legit turn-off, just like Facebook. There's a difference between multitasking and being scatterbrained.

I am awake and was awake at 4.40 AM EST, and I wondered why I was awake at such a time, given how ridonkulously tired I was when I went to be and still kinda was. Then I noticed two things:
1. It was quite chilly, and
2. it was raining.
Osteroarthritis says good morning. It isn't awful but just uncomfortable enough to be awake.
I will never see a reference to something like "a portal in the kitchen" without being reminded of this delightful story about the lady who accidentally summoned a demon when she was making a sandwich:
2/2: The Soviets pulled off a great switch. From the 1920s until the 1980s they infiltrated Western press, academic, and labor, but then they pivoted after Reagan and their buckling under Bush I to taking over the American Right, their staunchest foes/foils throughout the 20th century. The neoliberals gave them the best assists ever, too, by essentially giving up on Progressivism and Labour.
Everyone was warned, but no, "the Cold War is over!"
And here we are.
1/2: The Right/Alt-White Wing rank-and-file have for decades been fearing and campaigning against a police state, a surveillance state, a kleptocratic state, i.e., The Deep State, and now they're about to get one, and I imagine that for some number of them, especially black and Latino members of that political wing, are going to finally understand what folks with any sense have been saying for decades:
If you get your guys elected, your numbers are up because they do't want you here/free.
