1/2: I was fortunate enough to find a few clinicians over the decades that noticed that I was somehow "white-knuckling" it and despite themselves not knowing how to help me initially did explore solutions with me and weren't proscriptive. My shrink for years stopped charging me the last few years before he retired in 2018, said he was learning how to deal with atypical autistics like me by working with me 15+ years.

I do not have the typical problem of not knowing what or nearly what help I...

2/2: ...need. Rather, my problem is that when I tell people and ask for help they don't know how and are often intimidated because it's well outside their experiential frame of reference or just tell me I don't need what I said but just need some neurotypical shit. Doc M. said he treated me through a dialectic method. He said all I usually needed was a sounding board and some advice and that once we got out of the weeds things got better or at least manageable for a year or three.

@thedisasterautist the so called help is not enlightened in the matter as you are.

@Horrrflmlvr: Being atypical among atypicals throws people off. If clinicians (actual pros) can ditch the doctor-patient dynamic enough so that we can talk shop, things go way smooth. I'm getting better at getting them to do that as I get older.
