Peru's immediate arrest of its coup-attempting former president was not a sign of democratic strength or a powerful rule of law.
@RationalLeft: Predictably, lots of Americans and others seized the news as a parallel to January 6 in Washington, DC and held it up as the Peruvians "taking care of business" swiftly and "carrying out justice the way it's supposed to be". Meanwhile many Peruvians and South and even Central Americans were saying, "Hold up, folks. Here's the story..." They were generally ignored, of course.
@RationalLeft: Alas.
