I got #51 in my draw and they were taking kids up to #192... but the draft ended before they called me up.
I quit school and lost my 2S, drew the 51 and got my letter to take the physical, went 1H and got the letter changing that to 1A and don't leave town. That was on a Wednesday. The draft ended on that Friday. The parties went on for a month.
@tgraph52 Yeah, I was 230 something.
I was so glad I wore my new cowboy boots to the physical... When they had us strip to our shorts and shoes in the stairwell to get started, I hardly looked stupid at all.
[DUH] 😜
@tgraph52 my friend Choke got #1, but when he was 13 a tree fell on him & broke his pelvis, so he got a 4F deferment. my brother's was in the 90s, but he was a physic major, so unlikely to have been called. he burned his draft card
@tgraph52
Those are not memories I like to revisit. I enlisted before they could draft me so at least I could pick my MOS. I still had my draft card for years after (even though we were supposed to surrender it) but lost it in a move.
