I've often been asked by American friends here on coso, "What is a swede? Is it like a turnip?" and really the answer is "yeah but, no but".
Pictured below, is a swede with a 6" bladed knife for scale.
Nearest thing in the USA that I'm aware of is rutabaga. Turnips are *much* smaller, often no bigger than an apple.
@stueytheround Oh dear! All this time I thought a swede was someone from Sweden!
@piquant00 Well yes, but I don't eat those. π€£
@stueytheround @piquant00
wellll... ok, i wont say it.
@stueytheround Don't see the picture but Wikipedia says it is called a rutabaga in the US.
@Lucky188 Thank you! I forgot to add the photo π€£π€£
Mam used to add it to curry, with raisins as well.
@KyleL Hehehe! And mango chutney *in* the curry! π€£
I see we had the same recipe!
@stueytheround Is this also similar to a radish in flavor?
@Fellixe No. Much nearer to a turnip or parsnip. Sweet.
Uh...
Helps if I include the photo! π€£
