Hobby? Merlin?
@Marc_T_Benedict @stueytheround
I think the kestrel is human-watching.
@AskTheDevil @stueytheround They're naturally pretty observant.😉
@Marc_T_Benedict I meant hobby as in the small raptor. (Falco Subbuteo). I didn't recognise the kestrel because the Eurasian or Old World Kestrel (falco tinnunculus, first pic) looks quite different from that one. It's one of my all time favourite birds.
Second pic is the Hobby.
Third is the Merlin (falco columbarius)
@stueytheround @AskTheDevil I looked it up.😁 We don't have hobbies in my neck of the woods (unless maybe they occur as strays or accidentals).
@stueytheround
Is that a European hobby or an African hobby? ☺️@Marc_T_Benedict @AskTheDevil
@sonnybillglover The swallow may fly South for the Winter...
@AskTheDevil
@stueytheround @sonnybillglover
Or north. The weather's been a little funny lately. ; )
@AskTheDevil There's that. @sonnybillglover
@stueytheround
Is it further to Chicago, or by bus?
@Marc_T_Benedict @AskTheDevil
Marvellously daft fact:
The inventor of the best selling table top soccer game wanted to call his creation "The Hobby" as he thought it would be just that. A hobby. A pastime.
The patent office told him he couldn't do that, so he named it after the bird of that name.
Thus was born...
Subbuteo ⚽
@stueytheround @AskTheDevil Kestrel. We see them from time to time. If you're looking for a cute falcon, they're hard to beat. If "Hobby?" refers to birding, yes, I am a bit of a birder. Not as much recently, but I still keep an eye and an ear open.
