I'm heading out soon for a bit of early evening .
It's too nice to stay inside.
Might try to make a video. Haven't put much up on youtube lately.

Had an awesome time
The atmosphere on The Barbican was beautiful.
Made two videos
Here's the first.

Mustang Sally cover.
Dedicated to @th3j35t3r who often compares me to The Commitments 😜

And then there's this.
There are lots of great versions of Amazing Grace to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. My favourite is by the awesome Blind Boys of Alabama which is how I learned of it.

This is my rendition, complete with a hiccup when I got distracted by something happening off camera! 🤣🤣

life ftw!

@stueytheround

I envy the people that happen to be where you set up. Enjoy, and have a nice evening. 😎

@realDDGlover I'm going to the historic part of the city, The Barbican. 403 years ago, the Pilgrim Fathers sailed The Mayflower from there!

@stueytheround @realDDGlover

Whereupon they all said good riddance to extremist rubbish, no doubt 😁

@Vanitas @stueytheround

And probably one of my ancestors. But the line has mellowed. Lol.

@Vanitas
Not quite in all truth.
in the early 1600s, we had James 1st, a Catholic, on the throne.
His policy of persecuting the Protestants (just as Protestant monarchs persecuted Catholics) is what made them leave.

I'm not defending the shit The Puritans did once they got there, but they weren't "extremists". A better description would be "fundamentalists".

@realDDGlover

@stueytheround My great-to-the-eighth grandfather was on that ship. Wish I could teleport to hear you play and see where it set sail from.

@WendyForbes
What was his name?
I might have something to show you!

@WendyForbes
Incidentally, due to reclaiming land from the sea, the *actual* place they left from is now in the toilet of a pub 🤣
The Mayflower Steps are a later addition which honours the event.

@stueytheround oh wow. Now I’m going to have to plan areal trip so I can visit this historic pub loo. 😝

@stueytheround 💙 that would be great! From your shore to ours ..the Juneflower voyage. @WendyForbes

@WendyForbes
Ok.
There's a handpainted sign with a list.
I'll see if I can spot him and send you a pic.

@stueytheround Sadly Dorothy died shortly after arrival. She “fell off the ship and drowned”. 🤔

William married again. A woman named Alice and their 3 children had A LOT of children so I think half of Americans born and raised on the eastern seaboard are related to him. 🤣

@WendyForbes @stueytheround here is some photos from New Street (built in the 1590s), Nancy Astor was part of the saving of these streets in the 1920s.

Also check out tag, I tried to share stuff as it happened.

@stueytheround also I had to look up fustian maker. So was he in textiles or did he make speeches?

1.thick, durable twilled cloth with a short nap, usually dyed in dark colors.
"the coarse fustian of prison clothing"

2. pompous or pretentious speech or writing.
"a smoke screen of fustian and fantasy"

@WendyForbes Given he was from Yorkshire, a major centre of clothmaking, I'm going with the former! 🤣

@stueytheround That definitely makes more sense. Doesn’t seem like one could make a living back then just giving speeches.

@stueytheround May all your days be too nice to stay indoors, my friend.

Booking myself and my P-Bass onto a flight right now.

@stueytheround

I always enjoy your rendition of what I call "House of Amazing Grace".

What I wish I could find is a woman singing the traditional lyrics to the folk song which inspired the House of the Rising Sun, the ones about the woman trapped in prostitution, often called Rising Sun Blues.

@FernLovebond Yes! iirc the tune is somewhat different too. Obviously what Eric Burdon and The Animals did to it is iconic, but I'd love to hear a woman sing those words.

OH DEAR. THIS POST WAS SET TO SELF-DETONATE 💣 💥 🔥
