Headed to my monthly songwriter circle this morning. We all work from the same prompt and then share our new song. I will be sharing “The Look in Your Eye” - first performance of this song! It’s fun to hear new stuff from others and also get feedback🎶😎

Do you write the lyrics in that time too?

Well, I came up with the first line almost immediately when I got the prompt, then stalled out. When I went back to it just a few days ago, it started flowing and I did lyrics and music with in about an hour . Then refined a bit over the next couple days. The group liked the song, gave me a couple suggestions which w8ll be easy to address, so I’m feeling pretty good about this one.
I can't write a lyric to save my soul...
I have songs I've been trying to finish for over 20 years.
My niece can crank them out like nothing and it's frustrating.

@tgraph52 I’ve been there too. Two things helped me 1- working with a co-writer, and 2 - doing some exercises where I took a more “academic” approach (realizing it might not be a great song, but it helped to build songwriting muscles.)
Then, of course, the songwriter circle approach has helped as well.
I live in a complete musical vacuum. I don't really have anyone to bounce things off of, or even to sit and listen to music and talk about it...
So there's that.
I'll keep at it. I figure someday there will come a flood of pent up words hahaha
