Update your Chrome browser ASAP. Google has confirmed a zero-day exploited in the wild https://zdnet.com/article/update-your-chrome-browser-asap-google-has-confirmed-a-zero-day-exploited-in-the-wild/ by @sjvn
This nasty bug is also present--and needs to be patched--in Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and all the other Chromium-based web browsers.
@sfleetucker Bad news. It's in Safari too.
@Agatha I checked and Safari isn't listed in the article or the CVE, so I'm not sure where that assertion is coming from.
I didn't make the assertion. I just found the exchange funny. π
Safari has been shown to need patches for previous "zero day" exploits (just last year, in fact), so I wouldn't bank on it being magically immune. It might be to this one, or they just haven't figured it out yet. Apple can sometimes be sluggish to admit to issues and even more sluggish to respond. Just be aware. π€·π»ββοΈ
@Agatha I am, and I run updates whenever theyβre released.
@sjvn Ok, but I don't see that in the original article. Only the Mac versions of chromium browsers...
@sjvn Nor does the CVE mention Safari, only Chromium. Safari isn't a Chromium browser, it's Webkit. So do you have an additional source that shows it affects Safari?
@sfleetucker Whoops! You're right. My mistake. Safari's fine. For some reason I looked right at your words and in my head I substituted Opera,, which is Chromium-based, not the Webkit-based Safari. My apologies!
@sjvn Cool. Just making sure I hadn't missed something.
Thanks, updated Chrome on my computer and phone!
@sjvn I've been trying to update it on my Chromebook for the past couple of days, but it keeps telling me it's up to date.
Lies.
@sjvn <quietly enjoys Safari> π
