So CoSonauts, how the heck do me and my friend buy tickets, separately, to the same movie and get seats next to each other? Is everyone supposed to log into the theatre site at the same time, be like talking to each other on the phone as each person selects their seat at the same time??
Why the fuck are movie theatres requiring you to choose the seat you want when you buy the damn ticket??
For concerts I can understand but geesh, it's just a movie!
It's a good thing this system wasn't in place when I was in college cause there's no way the groups of friends I'd go to a movie with would be able to coordinate this. Just trying to decide what pizza we wanted to order took forever! 😆
@see_the_sus I see your point (and i agree) that it's silly. On the flip side, Covid hit theatres hard for the last few years & they're likely looking for ways to try and fill seats more efficiently to make up for the last 2 yrs being "lean". This might be the way to do that. Alternatively, the theatre selling advance tickets means that they'll have a better idea how many might be attending & if they had the option, they might be able to cancel if say only 5 tickets were sold.
Selling in advance doesn't bug me. It's the reserved seating that is now required that I find stupid and frustrating.
@see_the_sus It wouldn't be as hard as concert tickets though. Unless the movie is super popular (in that case there'd be more viewings anyway), and presuming that the tickets are the same price, so you just have to get an idea of front/middle/back. Make a rule that the person who bitches about the seats has to do the purchasing the next time. 😜
I'll make a note of that if/when I go see a movie again at a major theatre. 😂
Conversely, we've appreciated being able to lock down seats where we want them or, if we can't sit where we prefer at the 5:30, we might look at the 6:15.... It means we don't have to hurry through (or skip) food on the way, for example, to be certain we're not sitting too close or whatever.
And none of this has ever been a major concern for me but I try to make sure I'm getting to such places with plenty of time to not have to rush. That and I rarely buy food at a theatre.
This first came to my attention when I heard 👇 story on NPR last month. At the time I wasn't thinking about going to see a movie with others. Then I went to the Cinemark site to look up movie times and...

@see_the_sus @XaoslordErie Buy C6-D3 of every show speculatively and sell at a profit! #MovieCoin!!! #DontDoThis
How come I never think of these brilliant ideas! 😭
@see_the_sus You'd do the same for concerts--have one person buy the tickets, and have your friends electronically transfer funds to your bank (before or after), *or* pay you the cash (before or after).
