Multiple reports of unknown white dust particles falling from the sky in parts of West Virginia and Maryland; fire officials are advising shutting doors and window and remaining indoors until the dust is identified.

UPDATE Officials recommend calling 911 if you experience these unknown dust particles falling in your area

@see_the_sus Yeah someone mentioned Texas. I just do not see how that could go that far but ok whatevs. 😂

@WhiteRose

When Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980, there was ash fallout as far south as northern New Mexico and as far east as Minnesota.

The dust storm and then the snowstorm that followed here in Albuquerque yesterday hid the Sandia Mountains.
I took this photo looking east where the mountains should be.

We used to camp on Spirit Lake, right at base of Mt St Helens, before she blew her top. Rented a boat from Harry Truman and everything. It was a beautiful area and is still rebuilding all these decades later.
We could see the various ash plumes from our roof/around the corner. We have a coffee can of 1980 ash somewhere.

I was only 9 when it happened so it was an exciting time here in the PNW. I'm just glad our folks took us there several times on camping trips! We didn't make it up there last summer to see how the recovery is going.

The whole area, especially closer to Mt St Helens, became a scientist/researcher dream live lab to study. Pretty neat, eh?

@Teej_Muk @WhiteRose

I was 10 and remember the amazing vivid sunsets we got here in NM from the ash in the air.
