Anybody replaced an over-the-range microwave oven? I'm wondering if my all-thumbs self could DIY on it or should I spend the $200 on a professional?

@Merlin @kel @evistre @spacesloth @MountainMan Thanks everybody! I think I'm going to give it a whirl. Worst case is I have an unsightly hole in my kitchen while we arrange for professional install.

At least I hope so. The bottom bracket is not quite as meshed in w/the zapper as I would like.

The secret is getting the exact same model of microwave, and throwing it on the same mounting brackets that the old one was on.

@rpardee I vote get a new microwave for the counter and pretend the over range one doesn't exist.

@rpardee you could put something scary in the defunct one to surprise visitors.

@rpardee not at all difficult. Perhaps the most difficult part is IDing the correct part number for the face/surround that fits the space you have.

It’s as simple as removing that plate, unplugging and pulling out old, plugging in and installing the new face

@Merlin @rpardee A second pair of hands helps, but I am sure there are YouTube videos that cover the process. I wouldn't spend $200 to have someone else do it, but ymmv.

@rpardee you might even find that your existing faceplate/trim kit works for the new one, with perhaps a very slight variance you could live with

@rpardee

Not a huge deal if you’re careful with you’re measuring. Last time I did mine I think it was an hour from start to finish. A cordless drill with drill bits and screw driving bits were all I needed.
