well, shit--looks like my primary credit card has been compromised. "My" 9.99 charge to RUSVPN was unsuccessful.

Gonna have to go through all my streaming services, cell phone autopay, etc. and unplug them from said card.

@rpardee That sucks. You need privacy.io - it's free. Allows you to create virtual cards, limit them to single vendors or fixed monthly amounts, create one for each of your subscriptions then when something goes south just kill that one virtual card and you're done.

@th3j35t3r @rpardee

I can second this recommendation.

Plus, the Privacy service links directly to your bank account, so even if your actual bank card gets compromised somehow, your virtual cards all still keep working.

@mcfate @th3j35t3r Hmm--that makes me a bit nervous. So if the privacy.com account is compromised then they can hoover out my bank account?

@rpardee @th3j35t3r

Not likely, it goes through your bank's authorization interface. It's not really any different than setting up an autopay arrangement for a car loan.

@rpardee @th3j35t3r

Also, you can install the Privacy app on your phone and/or set up email notifications to let you know every time Privacy charges a virtual card for something.

Additionally, they've got browser plugins to let you create and manage cards without having to go outside the web page you're looking at.

Burner cards that can only be used a single time are the BOMB.

@rpardee @mcfate I've been using it for years, and like @Mcfates says it goes through your banks auth process, I've never had any issues and it's saved me so much hassle over and over again.

@th3j35t3r @rpardee @mcfate I’ll third the recommendation. I can make a valid credit card number right now shut it off at will. You can make it merchant specific, or limit the payment frequency and amounts.

It’s saved me more hassle than I ever thought possible the fact that they collect money from the bank transaction fees not costing me directly is what makes it even better.

I have my kidlet on it also.
