How do we let ourselves become so easily divided from our very humanity?

I feel so lost. 😭

@quinnsentialOne /hug don't worry. We all feel like this from time to time.

@staybeautiful @quinnsentialOne *holds your hand* Come on, were going to Jezzi's for cookies and milk.

@MichaelTalon @staybeautiful I would love cookies and milk right now. 😏

I might be a tough country gal, but if you put cookies and milk in front of me. I'm 6 years old.

@quinnsentialOne Emotions are easily manipulated by those with something to gain. Turning us against each other is the best way those with massive amounts of money can keep us from focusing on coming together to make things better for the vast majority of us who are just trying to get by and have a good life rather than rule the world and be a billionaire

@EelGM It's true.

Information doesn't flow in rural places the same way it does in cities. And what does is drowned out so heavily. In the modern world you think information is equally available. It's not.

Democrat America is so disconnected from most of Republican America no wonder we are all being so easily manipulated to hate each other.

It just feels hopeless.

@quinnsentialOne 💯 agree. Everything has been cranked up to 11 out of 10. It’s going to be difficult finding a way through. I keep hoping a real leader will emerge with an economic message, because that could actually bring people together. A bridge has to found & it’s economic, farmers KNOW monopolies are driving prices down and causing bankruptcies urban people too know the monopolies are out of control as do small biz…problem is the Dems are in their pocket as much as the GOP

@quinnsentialOne I can only talk to the people I meet, I’ve tried talking to politicians really I have, been lied to my face doing political organizing here in Wisconsin. I have zero faith in our Democratic Party that’s why there is literally a second party through out the state that formed most are members (and delegates) of the Wisconsin Dems but they know the party is useless so they formed OWN which has been really successful

@quinnsentialOne one issue that’s really important to both sides could bring a few people together if that happens cracks in the hate driving people apart can occur as real connections are made between people

@EelGM This has been half my posts in CoSo since I got here.

@quinnsentialOne completely understandable it’s a maddening position to be in, my girlfriend’s eldest son’s wife’s family are all MAGA they live in a town of 2,600 we go over often

@EelGM I'm ex-MAGA. Recently ex-Republican too now.

My family still is MAGA.

It is a maddening position.

@quinnsentialOne it’s got to be hard seeing all the posts roasting MAGA & the GOP in juvenile ways. Those are “rally the base” posts even if the posters don’t realize it, they serve the same function as conservative talk like tucker Carlson

@EelGM I hate the MAGA movement.

But by attacking every conservative/Republican, most of whom are spoon fed information and don't get to see what you do, is just growing MAGA in whatever incarnation it takes. Trump or no Trump.

Trump didn't create MAGA.

He just named it.

The disconnect between urban and rural people created MAGA.

@quinnsentialOne Yes, yes, yes!!! I’ve been trying to tell people that and they look at me like I’m a space alien. MAGA was there before Trump. A bunch of really iterated people watching farms go bankrupt, small town businesses disappear and no one giving them any hope or answers. Hardly any people of other races, in these towns all all they hear is how they are racist and causing all the countries problems by just being white. Along comes Trump…poof MAGA

@EelGM Yup.

And people will read what I write and pass it off without a second thought.

Because they don't want to have any blame in being a part of what created MAGA.

But that's what happens when you leave people who are desperate out of the equation. They will turn to who/what gives them hope.

If they want to stop MAGA, voting isn't going to do it.

They have to reach out to and play big in the rurals. Election time or not. Nothing else will work. Trump will be replaced by another name.

@quinnsentialOne The Dems literally wrote off rural America. There is a paper trail that this was a conscious decision. They abandoned farmers & unions under the Clinton administration as their group took control of the national Dem party.

@EelGM Oh I know.

I can tell stories of how Democrats let corporate America chew away at farms. My family has a bunch of near dead farms just barely making it.

Or how they give special bias protection to corporate farms and dump subsidies on them while ignoring the small farms and making it harder for small, independent farms to exist.

@quinnsentialOne Wisconsin has led the nation in farm bankruptcies for years now.

You nailed it

The monopolies are key they control the prices more now than they did decades ago so prices go up in grocery stores but not for farmers

@EelGM That and hoops a farm has to jump through if they want to stay certified and be able to participate in the market at all.

Which is getting harder and harder to do as a small small.

Family farms are dying. And urban America doesn't give two thoughts about it. Not their problem.

@quinnsentialOne This is the game
Dems offer subsidies saying how they will help the little guy, but in fact they are skewed to big corporations
The GOP talks about deregulation saying how it will help the little guy, but again, regularly hard on little guys but come off corporations

@EelGM And the sad thing is.

We could talk about this all day and it'll get brushed off.

People really don't care about rural America.

They'll be happy to call rural conservatives racists, bigots, and other dreadful names for voting Republican without considering for a minute those Republicans might not see what they do while happily letting their farms and livelihoods die off.

So, rural Republicans become easy prey.

Democrats like to say they're woke while they're still half asleep.

@quinnsentialOne Democrats like republicans are a big group. Here in Wisconsin the OWN folks who are remaking the state Dem party are 💯 focused on farmers and rural issues have made inroads electing people in rural districts the state Dems thought would never elect a dem

@EelGM I would hope things like that could happen across America.

I own farm land. It was given to me by my grandparents, but I have chosen not to farm it. I walked away from it because I know it would have been expensive and grueling work for almost no return.

It's so heartbreaking to have been given something by your grandparents with their hopes that you could keep it alive.

And you just can't.

@quinnsentialOne did it by focusing on those farm bankruptcies and factory farms I forget the state legislative fixes they are pushing

@quinnsentialOne @EelGM
And you would think, with climate change, more importance and support would be given to food producers

@peeppeepcircus @quinnsentialOne Corporations and business people are short term thinkers. What will profits be next quarter, because they may use that to get a better job with a different corporation. My brother works for Walmart with a biz degree.

@peeppeepcircus @quinnsentialOne to clarify the previous statement was a half though because I’m tired. Those corporate thinkers (short term) drive the lobbyists that drive government policy

@peeppeepcircus @EelGM You would think.

Farmers feel the impact of a changing climate.

@quinnsentialOne you are absolutely correct Trump is immaterial

@EelGM People stood by while ultra rightwing conservatives took control of nationwide radio stations.

People stood by while they took control of TV.

Rural areas were being drenched in rightwing talking points while Democrats were nowhere to be seen.

Nobody really cared about the people in rural areas.

Republicans exist in a bubble of media telling them Democrats hate them and don't care about them. And then where are the Democrats? Nowhere to be seen until an election rolls around.

@quinnsentialOne ok this is a decent one I’ll find of her better ones tomorrow if u like it’s 6 years old so you know she was on top of this
youtu.be/hK3fNfq-e8Y

@quinnsentialOne btw that disconnect between rural and urban is what the “politics of resentment” book is all about let me find u a video brb

@quinnsentialOne three things in political communication
1) rally the base
2) sway the middle
3) disheartened the oppositions base
….
But there is also just talking to people like actual people which is something so many have forgotten how to do.

@EelGM @quinnsentialOne I wish I could boost this a thousand times and then a thousand times more. Well said and oh so true. 👍
