Wow! And, ARRRGHHH! š£
I had a similar problem a few weeks back when I mistakenly threw in some bras with 2 sweaters, the knitted kind, forgetting to put the bras in lingerie bags. š« I went to get empty the washer and found the bras had wound up around the sweaters. I was terrified I was going to have to cut the sweaters but after quite a while I got them untangled.

I went and bought a tub of the rough size and shape of the washing machine's drum and now I am running water to cover the twisted mess, as suggested by @elbutterfield
@publickovacs has the great bedding challenge been resolved?
@elbutterfield @Mauve_matelot @see_the_sus
Indeed. But capitalism known as Amazon just brought two new ones and these are zipper closures. (We use two because we each have our own twin sized duvets - not pulling covers off one's partner seems to improve relationships and survival odds. )
@Mauve_matelot
I like that approach a lot, too! When we use comforters (when it is not hideously cold) we do the one-size-up also.

We agree @publickovacs At our place we buy a duvet one size larger than our bed, so our single beds have a double duvet cover and our Double duvet has a king size cover. It's worked for 20 years
