"Progress" is a myth that needed to die.
Misrepresentations of history have led many to think that children magically "evolve" into more enlightened beings one generation after another, when the hard truth is that every new human being has to rise up out of the prejudices of their social contract--and many don't.
We have fragile bubbles of decency in a few parts of the world, but even those bubbles have tribalist limits--& there are plenty who don't care if they're broken, too.
