Because @th3j35t3r shared a news item about an abandoned dog a bit earlier and I responded by saying I wanted to assault the POS who abandoned the dog, I am inspired now to share the origin story of #Neville . As much / little of that story as I know, to be exact. Settle in for a story, please.
A young man in our neighborhood was on a hunting trip on April 20, 2021. He had driven from NW Missouri to the forests outside of Omaha, NE. ++
I stopped, said "hey little mop" and the dog wanted to get into my car. I took him home.
We took him to the vet, were informed he was a young Lhasa Apso, that he was neutered but wasn't microchipped. The following day, I called the Nebraska Humane Society to see if they were aware of anyone looking for a dog matching his description. They weren't. I filed a found report, which meant that for thirty days, we would host the dog with the intention of locating an owner. ++
in that forest. By now, he has spent what we guess is a slight majority of his life with us. We are convinced that the reason nobody was looking for him is that he was intentionally dumped. One friend advanced the theory that he must have been dumped when his elderly owner died and surviving family members resented him. This seems supported by the fact that even though he loves us, if he sees elderly, short, Caucasian women, he loses his mind and wants to run to them. ++
Neither one of us liked small dogs or would ever have gotten a small dog until #Neville . I personally am a herding dog fanatic. But we adore this little terror bag of Tibet as I call him. His life is good. But if you could put me in a soundproof room with no cameras w someone who abandoned an animal, I would do serious bodily harm.
The End
@publickovacs that is a fine looking beastie you got there.
Lucky boy!
@rpardee
Thank you 💙
Guard Neville. I could love 💕 that little guy too.
@LnzyHou
Thank you 💙
How short do they have to be? I have white & silver hair.
@LnzyHou
I will let you visit with Neville but that is it 😘 And the shorter, the better. I am five feet, ten and a half inches tall, and if you only come up to my shoulder, you are golden.
Whew
@publickovacs Well it sounds like Neville was pretty lucky to have you find him. He has a loving forever home now. ❤️❤️❤️
During that month, we scoured lost and found pet pages and Facebook groups in MO, NE, and IA. We did everything we could - all the while falling in love with this dog we started calling #Neville . No owner could be found. When the 30 days were up, per the provisions of the found report, the case was closed by the Humane Society and we had the legal right to keep this little dog. So we did. We think - on the basis of the vet's guess - he was about two years old when he was found ++
