Question I am pondering:

If an industry is so critical to the well-being of the population, is it imprudent to leave that function up to private enterprise? The profit motive means the operators will take more risks (notwithstanding whatever regulatory oversight exists).

@publickovacs Yes. I'm no expert--but this is very obvious, isn't it? This unholy alliance between health care and insurance creates more bloat than a government system would (and I don't believe that would be true of many other things, frankly. I'm not naïve to the waste that comes along with government-run programs). But most importantly, it needs to be done safely--and when your business is run by bankers, you'll always be cutting budget...
