For absolute fuck's sake, my Mom and my only sister are in Hungary. You know, next door to where Putin's rocket killed people. I am traveling there to see them for Christmas.

I am well aware. But I would like my mother to not get killed by rockets or radiation poisoning. As a political scientist, I understand regime types quite well. Worrying about what is left of my family of origin happens on a much more visceral level.

Orbán is on ongoing danger, but Putin is a more pressing one. He sees all the former Eastern Bloc countries as rightfully part of the Russian empire.
