RIP Shinzo Abe. Arguments that even very strict gun laws, like the ones Japan has, will not keep guns away from bad actors, are fascist and demagogic. Nonetheless, they start in 5, 4, 3, 2 ....

@publickovacs The "gun" he used looked to be made of spare bits and pieces. Unfortunately a basic gun is low tech and can be put together in many home workshops. It might only work once, but in this case, that's all that was needed.

@blur911 I recognize that it makes no difference for Abe, but the point is well taken: no carnage if you have to do bricolage to get a gun

@djarvis I totally agree with you. That is why strict gun laws do work. But the ppl arguing against those laws are often completely immune to logic and data. Consequently, they may very well try the "argument" that gun control doesn't work.
