i will say - the dnc spent ~a billion dollars on their campaign. it was a good campaign. but what a waste of $$. there has got to be a better way. so many peeps who could least afford these donations, made them.

i am curious about how other countries spend money on elections. canada is vast in terms of land mass (similar to us) but we don't spend anything near that amt on our elections.

how can we curb this? how can we make it more affordable?

i am truly curious.

@singlemaltgirl UK has spend limits based on how many MPs a party is standing. Contest every single seat in Parliament and you can spend something like Β£30million

In Ireland each candidate can spend around €60,000. Presidential elections a total of €750,000 (per candidate)

@process wow! the mps are very much like us. so that tends to keep spending in check w/in each constituency. the leadership of each party tends to cost since each candidate has to raise the money for their bids. but i don't think we're anywhere near the 1 billion mark. maybe 1/3 of that.

i think spending limits, the elimination of pacs, would be helpful. what else?
