Last flight I was on, I sat just in front of the right side wing. While I was looking out & down at the ground below us, suddenly another aircraft was there crossing our path at a similar angle but only about 1000 foot down. Virtually the same place & time in the sky. Our pilot did not deviate our path so the respective 1000 foot bubbles that must be maintained between aircraft must have JUST been satisfied & required no evasive actions.
I could see inside their windows for a moment!
